The Chapman Group is assisting their client, the 2029 Canada Games Host Society Inc., in recruiting a CEO for the 2029 Canada Summer Games. This event will bring together athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and communities from across the nation in Moncton and Saint John, New Brunswick. The Games will showcase athletic excellence, community spirit, and Canadian culture, leaving a lasting legacy for the region and the country.
Position Overview
Accountable to an independent and autonomous Board of Directors of the 2029 Canada Games Host Society Inc.the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will work closely with the Co-Chairs, providing leadership, support, and knowledge that will ensure the effective implementation of the Board's strategic vision and mandate for the Games. This position requires outstanding strategic and business insight, strong leadership, and the ability to make pivotal decisions that impact a diverse range of stakeholders across the country. The CEO will oversee the activities of the 2029 Summer Games and execute the strategic plan developed by the Board, creating and implementing an operational plan. Key responsibilities also include managing, authorizing, and structuring major departments, implementing robust financial and administrative controls, and representing the organization in negotiations and other official functions.
- Provide leadership to the staff team to ensure the effective implementation of the Board's vision, strategy, business plan and other plans for the Games, including the plans developed by the GSC for the Games.
- Report regularly to the Board concerning the implementation of the Board's strategic vision, strategy, business plan and other plans for the Games, including financial performance, risk management, and significant operational issues.
- Develop compliance measures throughout the organization with the policies and procedures approved by the Board.
- Ensure effective financial systems are in place, that economic resources are employed in accordance with approved budgets, and that open and transparent financial reporting and stewardship practices are in place.
- Establish an appropriate risk management framework that is supported by appropriate processes.
- Create a workplace culture that allows the Host Society to attract, retain, and invest in the development of staff and volunteers needed to meet the overall objectives of the Games.
- Create a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, diversity, inclusion, cooperation, and positive behaviours in line with Host Society values and vision.
- Delegate authority and accountability to staff members as appropriate - ensure expectations are met through regular coaching and mentoring.
- With guidance from the Co-Chairs, help to build relationships with key partners and stakeholders, including the Canada Games Council.
- Generate widespread community support and engagement throughout the planning and delivery of the Games, including engagement and participation from Moncton and Saint John's Francophone, Indigenous and Newcomer communities.
- Understand the importance of building the Canada Games brand in the community and with stakeholders.

- Exceptional skills in managing relationships in a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including national sport organizations, governments, the corporate sector, and the media
- Excellent communication, negotiation, financial management, people management, risk management and change management skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of the performance drivers, organizational context, and knowledge of the regulatory environment present within the framework of executing a national summer games event.

- Proficient verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in both French and English are required
- University degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Recreation, Sports Management, or related discipline.
- 8-10 years of progressively responsible leadership and related experience
- Experience working at a senior management level in professional organizations, complex environments, and/or not-for-profit or major events management positions
- Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to motivate and direct a high number of broad, complex, and diverse activities in a dynamic environment
- Sport / Recreation administration experience
- Demonstrated experience in sponsorship and managing stakeholder relationships
- Successful demonstration of working with volunteer leadership and operational groups
- Experience collaborating with government or politically influenced organizations
- Results-oriented with a drive for eliminating barriers
