Geomatics Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, review and provide input for high-precision control surveys in alignment with project requirements.
  • Plan, review and provide input for RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) data collection, including both photogrammetry and LiDAR workflows.
  • Oversee project workflows and procedures, ensuring best practices and technical standards are followed.
  • Process and validate spatial datasets to ensure accuracy, quality, and project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with project managers, internal stakeholders and operations to deliver fit-for-purpose geomatics solutions.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable standards and professional practice guidelines.
  • Plan, review and provide input for 3D terrestrial laser scanning for detailed as-built models and spatial data capture.
  • Develop standards, contracts, and other technical documents necessary to ensure work is carried out efficiently and provides.
  • Provides support to land acquisition processes and to survey execution across NL Hydro's Lines of Business.
  • Provides support for the coordination of the acquisition and operation management of land rights and resolving related issues following applicable company procedure, regulatory, legislative, contractual and financial obligations.
  • The incumbent will be the first point of contact for NL Hydro's Non-Regulated Assets.

The incumbent will work within a team infrastructure with a Focus on the following Hydro Infrastructure:

  • Overland Transmission Infrastructure
  • Access Infrastructure - Roads, Bridges, Culverts, etc.
  • Transition Compounds and associated infrastructure
  • HVdc Marine Crossing
  • Electrode Sites and associated infrastructure
  • AC and DC switchyards and associated infrastructure
  • Synchronous condenser and associated infrastructure
  • Repeater sites and associated infrastructure
  • Miscellaneous buildings.
  • Support as required to Generation Facilities

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills are essential for interagency and public contact.
  • Strong organizational, decision-making and analytical skills combined with sound judgment and technical skills and ability to function in an unstructured environment.

What You'll Need:

A university degree in Geomatics Engineering, supplemented by experience in a similar role. Formal certification as a Land Surveyor or an equivalent combination of training and experience is considered an asset. Knowledge of Geomatics engineering theory, principles and practices as well as familiarity with Geospatial Information systems is considered an asset. Knowledgeable in the legal aspects of easements, rights of way, leases, licenses, permits and real property interests. Must be able to spend prolonged time in field conditions where necessary, which may include adverse weather conditions and rough terrain;
