The Chapman Group is assisting its client, Propel, in recruiting a new CEO to lead its team. Propel is Atlantic Canada's virtual start-up accelerator, a community of educators and mentors committed to developing successful entrepreneurs in the Atlantic Canadian region. The Chief Executive Officer is a strategic planner who thrives on accountability, collaborates effectively, and builds strong relationships while charting a clear path towards the mission of leading the growth of large, successful technology companies headquartered in Atlantic Canada.

This position is fully remote. We welcome applicants from all Atlantic Provinces; the incumbent can be based anywhere in Atlantic Canada.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, this role requires an understanding of the present needs and challenges of Atlantic Canadian start-ups. The successful candidate requires awareness of trends, market changes, economic shifts, industry needs, government priorities, and a deep involvement in the pan-Atlantic start-up ecosystem. The CEO will clear paths for team-founder connections, manage investment and funding relationships, and advocate for the region. A key component of the role involves representing Propel in the community and sharing successes that present opportunities for regional growth.

The CEO's responsibilities include working with the Board of Directors to strengthen and further establish Propel's Accelerator Program as a market leader, as well as guide operations and personnel day-to-day.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Work with the board to establish and implement a strategic plan towards corporate financial autonomy and sustainability
  • Develop key metrics to monitor, understand, and report on success
  • Continue to position Propel in the start-up community through connector programs and similar communities across Canada, as well as research and identify other marketplaces
  • Deepen and maintain relationships with government, post-secondary institutions, community partners, funding partners, and investment partners
  • Motivate and inspire team members, set clear goals and expectations, and provide guidance and support to help them achieve their objectives
  • Responsible for conveying the company's vision, values, and goals to employees, investors, and stakeholders, driving Propel's programs
  • Establish a critical understanding of AI tools for the effective use of its entrepreneurs
  • Provide regular reporting to the Board on operations, project development, and market trends
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated high-level financial acumen and ability to create sustainable revenue and funding strategies
  • Experience successfully launching large-scale, multi-partner initiatives/projects
  • Excellent at building and fostering relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to see the big picture and take assertive action towards strategic and operational goals
  • Strategic ability to gain buy-in to a company's vision or initiative at all levels
  • Experience leading and managing the day-to-day operations of a multi-stakeholder organization

Compensation:

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
