Financial Controller For an Export Business
Shelburne County - Nova Scotia

Our client is a family-owned business with more than 35 years of experience exporting premium live Canadian lobster to Europe, Asia, and the United States. With about 15 employees, they operate across several industries - seafood exporting, bonded trucking, and fishing - making the work both dynamic and rewarding.

They are looking for a Financial Controller to join the team located in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. This is a unique role where variety is the norm: one moment you might be handling administrative tasks, and the next you'll be preparing financial statements or contributing to management decisions. If you enjoy taking ownership, being hands-on, and having a visible impact, this role offers the perfect balance of responsibility and opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day administration and office coordination.
  • Manage accounting functions across multiple companies, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, bank deposits and payroll.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Assist with budgeting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.
  • Support leadership with information to guide business decisions.

What We Offer:

  • A family-run, stable company with international reach.
  • Exposure to multiple industries in one role.
  • Direct collaboration with ownership and senior leadership.
  • A supportive, close-knit work environment where initiative is valued.
  • Benefits including health, dental and retirement plan.

What We're Looking For:

  • Background in accounting or finance; CPA designation (or progress toward it) is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to take on a wide range of tasks, from administration to financial reporting.

Skills Required:

  • Must be knowledgeable in Sage Accounting software
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and data entry
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Possess superior communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Teamwork skills
  • Able to set and meet deadlines
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented skills

Join a trusted name in Nova Scotia's lobster industry and build a career where your contributions truly make a difference.
