Financial Controller For an Export Business

Our client is a family-owned business with more than 35 years of experience exporting premium live Canadian lobster to Europe, Asia, and the United States. With about 15 employees, they operate across several industries - seafood exporting, bonded trucking, and fishing - making the work both dynamic and rewarding.
They are looking for a Financial Controller to join the team located in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. This is a unique role where variety is the norm: one moment you might be handling administrative tasks, and the next you'll be preparing financial statements or contributing to management decisions. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day administration and office coordination.
- Manage accounting functions across multiple companies, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, bank deposits and payroll.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
- Assist with budgeting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.
- Support leadership with information to guide business decisions.

What We're Looking For:
- Background in accounting or finance; CPA designation (or progress toward it) is an asset.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to take on a wide range of tasks, from administration to financial reporting.
Skills Required:
- Must be knowledgeable in Sage Accounting software
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and data entry
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
- Possess superior communication skills, both verbal and written
- Teamwork skills
- Able to set and meet deadlines
- Highly organized and detail-oriented skills
