Job Summary
The Primary Health Care Program is seeking an advanced, professional Clinical Occupational Therapist II to fulfill the Occupational Therapy role for its Family Care Team (FCT). The mission of the FCT is to provide person-centered, evidence-based, compassionate, comprehensive, sustainable healthcare with excellence in quality, service, and access.
The Clinical Occupational Therapist II is responsible for professional and clinical leadership/supervisory occupational therapy work. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II applies clinical knowledge and skills to plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and oversee occupational therapy services for the Family Care Team. Work includes input into program and policy development, project development, quality initiatives, participating in evidence-based practice, education, and community capacity building.
Occupational therapy will facilitate client participation in occupations supporting health and wellbeing. Clients in primary health care settings have diverse occupational barriers impacting meaningful occupational participation. These clients present with chronic disease, degenerative disease, mental illness, cognitive decline, neurodiversity, arthritis, and frailty. This population includes clients presenting with mental health issues, addictions, clients aging in the community and impacted by social determinants of health. A key role of the Clinical Occupational Therapist is as an advocate and navigator providing expertise to the collaborative interprofessional team. Occupational therapy will include health and recovery promotion, falls prevention, home safety assessments, mental wellness interventions, falls prevention, equipment assessment/prescription, self-management, community re-integration and 'Ageing in Place' initiatives. Care will include supporting and educating clients, families, caregivers and their communities. Care will be provided in an interprofessional team environment, in the community and virtually as necessary and appropriate. Multi-site coverage may be required.
Clinical supervision will be provided to Occupational Therapist I's, and Occupational Therapist Support personnel assigned to the Family Care Team. These duties are performed under the administrative guidance of the Primary Health Care. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy students and offer other clinical education experience to students within NL Health Services.
This position reports to the Manager Primary Health Care Burin Peninsula, Primary Health Care Program and will maintain accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant for Occupational Therapy for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Qualifications
Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board is required.
Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board is required.
A minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in adult health (Mental Health and Addictions or Physical Health) is required.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment.
Demonstrated effective written communication skills required for client documentation, report writing and professional communications
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of occupational therapy practice to others.
Proven supervisory and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and train Clinical Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Support Workers and students.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.
Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.
Proven ability to develop positive working relationships with external stakeholders.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
