The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care that meets provincial standards and reflects the values and mission of East Cumberland Lodge.
  • The successful candidate will oversee the resident care team, supported by two Assistant Directors of Care (Quality Assurance & Professional Practice) -including RN's, LPN's and Continuing Care Assistants-while ensuring compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and provincial licensing standards. This position also plays a key role in human resources management, budget development, infection prevention and control, quality improvement, resident advocacy, and education and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of resident care services, ensuring excellence in clinical outcomes and resident satisfaction.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate resident care programs consistent with current standards, best practices, and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee departmental staffing, scheduling, recruitment, and performance management in collaboration with HR and scheduling teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and licensing requirements related to nursing and resident care.
  • Lead and support initiatives in infection prevention and control, health and safety, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and participate in strategic planning and capital improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a positive and respectful workplace culture that supports teamwork, professional development, and staff engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, allied health professionals, residents, and families to ensure holistic and person-centered care.
  • Actively participate on internal committees (e.g., Quality Improvement, OH&S, Infection Control, Ethics, and Leadership) and external working groups.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a health-related field (master's degree considered an asset).
  • Current registration and good standing with the appropriate professional regulatory body.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive leadership or management experience in health care, preferably in long-term care or continuing care.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse care teams and support a culture of accountability, learning, and compassion.
  • Knowledge of provincial long-term care standards, infection prevention and control practices, and accreditation processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with electronic health record systems and staff scheduling software (e.g., PointClickCare, ADP, or similar).
  • Current certification in BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support).
  • A clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check are required prior to employment.
