As IT Infrastructure Systems Designer, you will be part of the Healthcare Infrastructure Projects team leading the design development and technical architectural approvals process for new ICAT systems.

This position is critical in determining the appropriate IT technology and ICAT integrations used in Healthcare Redevelopment Projects with an opportunity to rethink and rebuild the way technology is used to improve the interactive user experience for patients, the public and staff.

The position interacts with the Design Architecture, Project Management, Network Architecture, Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT), Enterprise Architecture (EA), Cyber-Security and Privacy teams on projects across the province.

Responsibilities
  • Working in consultation with internal and external teams to ensure the healthcare projects adoption of strategies, policies, standards, and guidelines otherwise deployed across government that support a Digital Health direction.
  • Designing ICAT systems solutions for healthcare building systems, physical IT infrastructure, LAN, WLAN, firewalls, routers, and switches as well as detailed understanding of the central controlling infrastructure needed for renovations and new build projects.
  • Documenting reusable systems designs and standards to support ICAT deployments and championing solutions through architectural review process.
  • Ensuring that functional programs meet the current and future needs of the NSHA in an efficient, sustainable, agile, interoperable and adaptable manner.
  • Following the prescribed project development life cycle to meet quality standards.
  • Advising clinical procurement team about the compatibility requirements for any connected clinical devices which will be utilised in the renovated spaces.
  • Identifying IT risks associated with component or application during implementation.
  • Staying current with trends and technological innovations in the passive physical infrastructure Cable and IT industry and make appropriate development recommendations.
  • Accountable for developing and maintaining standards and guidelines for telecommunications and emergency systems, including reviewing specifications, providing expert commentary, and identifying potential issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or recognized Technology and Information Systems program with a minimum of 5 years experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Broad knowledge of Information Technology (IT), Networking, the ICAT and/or Technology and Information (T&I) Industry, expert knowledge in specific areas of ICAT and/or IT.
  • A thorough understanding of healthcare and/or government ICAT and/or healthcare ICT, IM/IT and/or T&I environments.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, consulting and project management skills.
  • Excellent business awareness, acumen and analytic skills.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills; excellent team and consensus building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to establish effective rapport with users and vendors.
  • Excellent Self - starter skills, who can operate independently at a high level with general direction only.
  • You should have familiarity with:
  • System architecture and/or systems design will be advantageous.
  • Medical data interfaces, specifically HL7, and security protocols and standards in relation to Protected Health Information.
  • Building Automation Systems and/or building security systems.
  • Interface engines and clinical applications such as Rhapsody, EMR, PACS, LIS, etc.
  • Mobile devices, particularly in their integration with larger systems.
  • Software defined networking and smart building enablement within healthcare.
