JOB SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Traffic Signal Supervisor and provides electrical support to any City owned infrastructure and facilities.

This position is responsible for work in the field and workshop in connection with the construction, installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of municipal electrical equipment.

The work involves utilization of tradesmen skills and knowledge in the public works fields.

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate or equivalency.
  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution or equivalent. Must be a Licensed Electrician with a current Province of New Brunswick, Department of Labour, Technical Services Branch with an Electrician Class 3 License.
  • Must have a Certificate of Qualification in Electrical Construction and/or Industrial Construction with the Province of New Brunswick.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have three (3) years experience as a Licensed Electrician in the related fields; such as, traffic signal installation, maintenance and installation of electrical control equipment and/or three (3) years electrical experience in commercial buildings.
  • Shall have experience on preventative maintenance and operation procedures, including maintenance and construction methods.

LANGUAGE:

  • English essential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and NB regulations, as well the Electrical Installation and Inspection Act.
  • The incumbent must have above-average initiative; judgment and ability to solve problems and perform the duties as outlined.
  • Must have general computer skills in MS Office programs as well as any other Applications and software related to the work.
  • Must have knowledge and experience of underground wiring.
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to read blueprints and drawings, complete job reports and prepare written job estimates for various projects

OTHER:

  • Must have and maintain Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Must be bondable and be able to pass and maintain security clearance for work in the RCMP Building.

CONTACT:

  • Work requires contact with the public, consultants, contractors, suppliers, employees, provincial, building and electrical inspectors and NB Power representatives. This requires a co-operative, positive attitude, in order to discuss issues, set priorities and solve technical problems.

SUPERVISION:

  • The work will require supervision of work crews providing advice and guidance to workers and reporting job progress and details.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.

CONDITIONS OF WORK:

  • Hours of work as outlined in the Collective Agreement between the City of Moncton and C.U.P.E. Local 51 and will include weekend and evenings as required.
  • Flexible to work extended shift hours or modified work hours when business requires.
  • Work is usually performed in a good working environment, under moderate conditions with exposure to occasional inclement weather.
  • The work requires a high level of attention and mental sensory co-ordination with short periods of concentration.
  • The work requires moderate physical effort and is normally performed standing either inside a building or outside in street areas.
  • The work requires climbing/Bucket work and occasional exposure to disagreeable conditions and hazards.
