Additional Working Conditions:
- Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the position, including the ability to lift heavy objects, work from ladders, at heights or in cramped quarters.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime as required. A telephone is necessary for callouts in the event of inclement weather and emergencies.
Salary: $24.24 per hour
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Operations Foreperson, this is a manual work position in the performance of semi-skilled tasks, of a physically demanding nature and the operation of light construction vehicles including tractors with accessories, and vehicles up to, but not including 3-ton trucks. The duties include a degree of skill in operating vehicles, moving and transporting materials and equipment, lawn maintenance and snow removal.
- Shovels snow as directed from steps, walkways, fire hydrants, and building roofs, or other areas. Sand and salt steps and walkways, as well as other areas as directed.
- Cuts and trims grass, shrubs and hedges by hand or with power equipment. Rakes and loads leaves, trimmings, and other refuse.
- Assists in the repairing and building of lawns and landscaping and building of retaining walls.
- Is responsible for general cleanliness and clean-up around the campus, such as picking up paper and refuse and the sweeping of sidewalks, streets, and parking lots.
- Assist with general repairs of streets, walkways, and parking lots, which includes application of asphalt.
- Operates vehicles delivering a variety of materials to various buildings on campus. This includes the transportation of the daily mail from the main post office to the University post office and on to other campus buildings.
- Operates light construction vehicles such as tractors with accessories in landscaping, plows snow and salts/sands using one-ton trucks, and other general grounds maintenance duties.
- The nature of the work will vary depending on the task, work may be in or out of doors under varying conditions, at heights or in confined spaces.
- Assists with re-lamping of light fixtures in gyms, pools, and dining halls.
- Inspects and clears roof drains, tunnels, catch basins, and other areas as directed.
- Loads and unloads trucks, carries heavy cartons or equipment from transportation facilities to storage or building sites. Set up or remove materials and furniture for special events and office renovations or relocations.
- Maintains sports fields as directed, using push and/or ride on mowers.
- Responsible for the application of safety precautions as may be required to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation as well as the care and preservation of assigned tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
WHAT YOU BRING
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum valid class 5 driver's license.
- General knowledge of vehicles, tractors, maintenance tools and equipment, mowers, and whipper snippers.
- General knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices necessary for heavy lifting and labour work.
