Definition of Work:
This position is primarily responsible for providing comprehensive Recreation Therapy Services. This dynamic individual will work closely with the primary health care team and will be responsible for the Adult Day Support program in areas of: Completing a needs assessment of the service area to determine the community needs for an Adult day support program and other related seniors programs; Developing and implementing the programs identified through the needs assessment. This position will be responsible for the development of a volunteer program for both the acute care and LTC sites; completing leisure inventories; documentation of client participation and progress; program planning; development, implementation and evaluation of diversified recreation participation opportunities based on the needs, skills, abilities and interests of clients; assisting and promoting activities of daily living; and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centred care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
? A minimum two-year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or a two-year diploma in recreation, with major experience in developing, organizing, and implementing recreation/leisure programs in health care.
? Minimum 2 years? experience in the field of Therapeutic Recreation in a Community Health or health care setting.
? Demonstrated competencies in problem solving, program planning, and strong motivation.
? Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
? Demonstrated positive, respectful and sensitive approach to the needs of residents.
? Demonstrated ability to work within a team or with a high degree of independence.
? An unrestricted Class IV driver?s license.
? A current member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Therapeutic Recreation Association.
? Consistent demonstration of NL Health Service's core values; Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (ICARE)
? A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
? A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
