The Department of Natural Resources is seeking an experienced leader for the role of Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) within the Forestry Division, in Fredericton.
- As a member of the senior management team and reporting directly to the Deputy Minister, the selected candidate will be responsible for the overall direction and management of the following program areas: pest management; habitat; species at risk; protected natural areas; management planning; renewable resources inventory; inventory development; tree improvement; silviculture; nursery operations; forest operations outcomes and compliance; roads; timber royalty rates; operating plans; industrial plans; licensee and sub-licensee agreements; industry relations; and private woodlot relations.
- The ADM will provide expert advice to the Minister, Deputy Minister, and senior executives on complex issues impacting a range of stakeholders, and contribute to legislative, regulatory, and policy changes and development. The ADM will manage the division budget, allocate resources, and make financial recommendations, ensuring alignment with department and government priorities.
- The selected candidate will oversee the ongoing development of an operations management system, including guidelines, processes, standard operating procedures, methodologies, controls, and overall best practices, to enhance core capabilities and to ensure operational effectiveness. The ADM will be responsible for promoting the sustainable management of Crown forests, driving change as needed to contribute to the overall growth and success of the organization.
- Responsibilities of this leadership position also include the following: managing and providing leadership to division staff, including developing work plans, supporting developmental opportunities, managing performance, establishing priorities and succession planning; and developing and maintaining positive relationships with employees, clients, investors, partners and all stakeholders. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, or another related discipline, and a minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively more responsible work experience in one or more of the following: experience with forestry programs and activities; experience in a large corporate setting developing and implementing strategies, team leadership at the senior level, and/or experience leading change through process improvement.
OR
- A Master's in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, or another related discipline, and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively more responsible work experience in one or more of the following: experience with forestry programs and activities; experience in a large corporate setting developing and implementing strategies, team leadership at the senior level, and/or experience leading change through process improvement.
AND
- A minimum of five (5) years at the manager level with human resources and financial management responsibilities.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATION(S):Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate a minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively more responsible work experience with forestry or economic development programs and activities. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications to be given further consideration.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to travel throughout New Brunswick and within and outside of Canada as required; work extended hours and weekends on occasion.

SALARY: $148,616 to $163,540 per annum
