Regional Assignments and Location Preferences
There will be one position assigned to each of the regional groupings as follows:
- Southwest and Valley Regions
- This position may be located at any of the locations noted below
- Southwest Region: Lunenburg Campus, Shelburne Campus, Burridge Campus (including Digby Learning Centre)
- Valley Region: Kingstec Campus, Annapolis Valley Campus (including COGS)
- Metro Region and Ivany Campus
- This position must be located at Ivany Campus
- Metro Region: Akerley Campus, IT Campus
- Ivany Campus
- Northern and Eastern Regions, and Sydney Waterfront Campus
- Preferred location for this position is either Truro Campus or Sydney Waterfront Campus
- Nothern Region: Truro Campus, Cumberland Campus (including Amherst Learning Centre)
- Eastern Region: Pictou Campus, Strait Area Campus (including Wagmatcook Learning Centre)
- Sydney Waterfront Campus
These are onsite positions, and you will be asked to indicate your preferred location(s) in the pre-screening questionnaire as part of the application process on Career Beacon. Primary campus locations will be confirmed during the interview process and are subject to space availability and operational requirements.
Reporting to the Manger, Public Safety and Emergency Management, you will:
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and resilient environment across multiple NSCC campuses.
- Play a pivotal role in advancing public safety and emergency preparedness through the oversight of programs, policies, and compliance initiatives.
- Provide regional leadership, oversight and subject matter expertise to both in-house and contracted security personnel, ensuring alignment with NSCC standards and readiness to respond to incidents and emergencies. Ensure service excellence and accountability through strong contract and performance oversight.
- Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of safety strategies, emergency plans, and risk mitigation efforts.
- Safeguard the College community and strengthen its preparedness for evolving safety challenges.
On-call and after-hours support as required.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
The minimum educational qualification for this position is post-secondary education in Criminal Justice, Public Safety/Security, Emergency Management, or a related discipline combined with Industry Certification in a recognized program (i.e., International Foundation of Protections Officers (CPO, CPOI, CSSM); ASIS International (CPP, PSP, PSI)), and Incident Command System Canada - Level 100 or higher. Valid CPR certification and first aid training would be considered an asset.
You possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence with minimum violations. You will be required to submit regular updates.
You possess a clean Criminal Background Check. You will be required to submit regular updates.
You have a minimum of five (5) years (full-time equivalent) of progressive experience in security management, public safety, law enforcement, or related field that includes substantial experience in a supervisory capacity.
Post-secondary occupational experience would be considered an asset.
Proficiency in the Windows environment, including the full suite of Microsoft Office software products and e-mail systems such as Outlook, CCTV, physical security and intrusion alarm systems, and Mass notification systems such as Status Solutions-SARA, two-way radios and other communication technologies.
You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student and staff experience.
You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation.
You are available for on-call support 24/7 on a rotating schedule.

You have strong project management skills demonstrated through coordinating multi-location emergency management exercises, leading security policy implementation, and managing cross-campus Public Safety initiatives.
You have demonstrated strength in supervising, managing and leading a team of contracted and in-house security across multiple campuses (locations).
You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in fostering a positive Public Safety culture across multiple locations.
