Saint John Energy is inviting applications for the role of "HSE Coordinator" until 2:00pm on Monday, October 6, 2025.

The HSE Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Saint John Energy's Health & Safety, Training, and Environment programs at Saint John Energy. This role ensures compliance with all applicable legislation, promotes a culture of safety and well-being, and supports the company's commitment to sustainability, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, and operational excellence.

The position requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and the ability to influence cultural change at all levels of the organization. Flexibility to work outside normal hours when emergency situations arise may be required to achieve objectives.

Duties:

  • Provide frontline assurance for employee health and safety, ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies.
  • Champion a proactive safety-first culture with emphasis on physical and psychological safety, wellness, and mental health.
  • Maintain and socialize the Safety Management System (SMS) in alignment with ISO standards.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Support emergency preparedness and incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Oversee the Environmental Management System (EMS) (ISO 14001), ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and best practices.
  • Partner with stakeholders to advance the company's ESG and sustainability goals, including emissions reduction, waste management, and energy efficiency.
  • Monitor environmental performance metrics and support transparent reporting.
  • Identify need, plan, deliver, and administer safety, environmental, and regulatory training programs to staff and to provide awareness training to third-parties as required.
  • Maintain accurate training records and leverage digital learning platforms for delivery and tracking.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and employer representative to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Work closely with managers, supervisors, and employees to continuously improve HSE culture and performance.

Working Conditions:

  • 40 hours per week.
  • Primarily office-based with regular field visits to construction and operational sites.
  • Requires delivering presentations and training sessions, and participation in workplace inspections with department supervisors.
  • Some travel and overtime required.

Employment Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, NCSO, or equivalent) considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards (OH&S, ISO 14001, CSA), and ESG frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • A minimum of five years' demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
  • Proficient with digital tools and data analytics for safety and environmental reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training programs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's licence.
