The Department of Social Development is seeking to establish an inventory of Wellness Health and Safety Consultants to support the New Brunswick Housing Corporation (HNB) in Fredericton. This inventory will be used to fill current and future vacancies.

HNB is responsible for creating the conditions for safe, affordable and accessible housing for all New Brunswickers. They build, maintain and operate provincially owned housing, develop and deliver housing programs and initiatives, and provide residential tenancy services.

What you will do

As a member of the Social Development Human Resources Strategy and Programs team, the Wellness, Health and Safety Consultant will support HNB by enabling the organization to support wellness, health and safety in their work environment and to meet their legislative requirements, by providing expert leadership, best practices, research and tools. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Human Resources Strategy and Programs team in a challenging and rewarding field.

As a member of this team, you will provide client focused, integrated advice and services across HNB and their regional offices in the areas of wellness, health and safety. Key responsibilities of these positions are:

  • Providing guidance as a subject matter expert on occupational health and safety standards, risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems.
  • Assisting HNB with the design and implementation of a safety and health management system.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining a fundamental health and safety program and initiatives on behalf of HNB with an emphasis on compliance, critical hazard identification and risk reduction designed to promote a culture of safe workplaces, where employees are qualified.
  • Evaluating current processes and practices across HNB to ensure standardization in processes and application.
  • Developing, coordinating and/or delivering required regulatory health and safety educational sessions to HNB staff.
  • Being a liaison between WorkSafe NB and HNB and advising the organization as it relates to any form of regulatory requirement or order.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining health and safety program tools to assist HNB in ensuring they meet their regulatory compliance requirements and ensuring tools are kept up to date, easily available and clearly communicated.
  • Providing HNB advice, tools and technical support related to conducting investigations related to serious accidents, incidents, hazardous materials, near misses, issues and complaints.
  • Partnering with and coaching supervisors and managers on their duties as it relates to health and safety.
  • Other duties as determined by the manager of HR Strategy and Programs.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: University degree in a related field with a minimum of four (4) years of safety-related work experience OR a two (2) year post-secondary diploma in a related field with a minimum of six (6) years of safety-related work experience OR a one (1) year post-secondary certificate in a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of safety-related work experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Periodic travel to regional offices across the province is required. Successful candidates will need a valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
