EST-EAL – SLIFE Instruction (Foundations & Futures)– October – June 2026

Description: The EST-EAL – SLIFE Instruction position supports multilingual learners with limited or interrupted formal education through the Foundations & Futures program. This role provides targeted literacy instruction and cross-curricular skill development in the morning Foundations cohort, and literacy instruction with a focus on careers and essential life skills in the afternoon Futures cohort. Instruction is aligned with the CEFR, incorporates real-world contexts, and prioritizes both academic and personal growth. The teacher will maintain detailed progress records using CEFR Portfolios, skills mapping, and baseline/ongoing data to measure growth in literacy, numeracy, self-reflection, and attendance. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate through their skills and experience a strong ability to instruct students cross-culturally via conceptual understanding and inquiry.

Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Plan, organize, and deliver literacy and numeracy instruction aligned to the SLIFE program goals, CEFR, and individual student goals.
  • Foundations– Literacy development with a cross-curricular focus.
  • Futures – Literacy development with a focus on careers and essential life skills.
  • Use a multimodal, integrated approach to instruct SLIFE in language, literacy, and communication using a range of strategies
  • Assess and use student's Funds of Knowledge to integrate real-world contexts, career readiness, and essential life skills into instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse literacy and numeracy needs.
  • Monitor and document progress using CEFR Portfolios, skills mapping, and baseline/ongoing data to measure growth in literacy and numeracy learning trajectories, self-reflection, and attendance.
  • Foster a welcoming, culturally responsive environment that supports student well-being, academic growth, and community integration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and community partners to enhance program outcomes.
  • Communicate regularly with students, staff, and families to support learning goals and engagement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid New Brunswick Teacher's Certificate.
  • TESOL, CELTA, CTESL (or equivalent), or proven record in language instruction.
  • Minimum 3 years direct experience teaching Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE)
  • Experience using Task Based Assessment.

Assets:

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate literacy development across subject areas and in real-world contexts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of EAL pedagogy and cultural humility (course work and/or extra-curricular support)
  • Knowledge of inclusive practices to support MLLs in multi-aged, multicultural and multi-levelled classrooms
  • Knowledge of the CEFR
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, and effective communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible, innovative and self-directed
  • Familiarity with numeracy and literacy learning trajectories, and experience using data to inform instruction.
  • Experience with skills mapping, student self-reflection, and portfolio-based assessment is an asset.
