Job Title: Plant Manager

Location: Sambro, Nova Scotia

TP-7287

Just 30 minutes from downtown Halifax, Sambro Fisheries offers the best of both worlds, an established seafood operation set in a coastal community rich with tradition. Founded in 1987, the company has built a reputation as a trusted processor of sustainably sourced seafood, supplying retailers, distributors, restaurants, and fine dining establishments across North America and beyond. Working closely with independent fishers from the local community and throughout Atlantic Canada, Sambro Fisheries is committed to delivering quality and consistency to its customers.

Meridia is proud to partner with Sambro Fisheries in the search for a Plant Manager. This is a unique opportunity to take on a key leadership role with a respected seafood company, while enjoying working in a tight-knit coastal community just minutes from the city.

Role Description

As Plant Manager, you will take on a leadership role overseeing all aspects of Sambro Fisheries' processing operations. This position combines hands-on support with strategic oversight, giving you the opportunity to lead a skilled team, drive efficiency, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety. You will be a key player in keeping daily operations running smoothly while planning for long-term success.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee plant performance, ensuring production and quality standards are consistently met
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot issues that could impact production
  • Lead, motivate, and hold your team accountable to high standards of performance
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Maintain and enforce strict quality and food safety standards
  • Address and resolve quality complaints quickly and effectively
  • Keep accurate, timely production and operational records
  • Develop preventative maintenance schedules and recommend equipment upgrades when needed
  • Foster a strong health and safety culture through compliance and proactive practices
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to boost efficiency and reduce costs
  • Partner with leadership and HR to address employee issues and support team well-being
  • Manage plant expenses, balancing productivity with cost control
  • Ensure plant cleanliness, tidiness, and overall workplace safety

Your Qualifications

As an experienced operations leader, you bring a proven ability to manage people, processes, and performance in a fast-paced production environment. You understand how to balance day-to-day plant demands with long-term priorities, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency remain at the forefront. With strong communication and leadership skills, you know how to motivate teams, solve problems, and drive results.

Your qualifications include:

  • Proven experience managing operations in a manufacturing or processing environment; experience in seafood or food processing is a strong asset
  • Progressive supervisory or management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold teams accountable for results
  • An understanding of production workflows, quality assurance, and health and safety practices
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organization and with external partners
  • Adaptability to changing operational demands, with a hands-on approach when needed to support plant performance

As a key player in driving the company's success, your contributions will have a lasting impact on operations and future growth. You'll see the tangible results of your efforts every day, knowing the difference you're making at the facility. Sambro Fisheries offers a competitive salary package, performance-based bonus, comprehensive benefits, and a company vehicle.
