The Cultural Safety, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer (the Officer) is a driving force for change and equity at WSCC. This pivotal role leads, shapes, and champions bold initiatives that embed cultural safety, diversity, equity, and inclusion into every facet of our organization from the services we deliver across the North, to the culture we foster within our own workplaces.

As a trusted subject matter expert, the Officer ensures that:

  • WSCC programs and services are not only accessible, but deeply rooted in cultural safety and relevance, particularly for the Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Territories (NT) and Nunavut (NU). This means acknowledging and honouring their history, values, knowledge systems, and ways of being in everything we do.

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than values they are actions. The Officer drives continuous learning, critical reflection, and tangible change across our jurisdictions to ensure that WSCC evolves as a truly representative and responsive organization.

  • Our internal culture reflects our commitment. The Officer cultivates an inclusive, respectful, and empowering environment where all employees regardless of background feel safe, valued, and encouraged to bring their full selves and unique perspectives to the table.

Here are a few ways you will make a difference:

  • Leading initiatives that help build cultural safety, diversity, equityand inclusion into all Northern workspaces under the WSCC jurisdiction.
  • Supporting all WSCC units in operationalizing cultural safety,diversity, equity and inclusion in programs and services for the benefit ofexternal stakeholders.
  • Supporting Human Resources in the development and implementation ofprograms and initiatives to ensure that the WSCC is a culturally safe,equitable and inclusive workplace.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to achieve strategic goals andobjectives related to cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion.

What youbring to the role:

  • Completion of a diploma in Indigenous Studies or Social Sciencesrelated discipline (such as Sociology, Political Science, Social Work,Community Development, etc.), with 5 years experienceand training developing and delivering programs, and/or working with Indigenousand inter-cultural organizations and diversity and inclusion focusedorganizations, or with diverse communities.
  • Preference will be given to Indigenous Aboriginal candidates.

Equivalencies: May be considered based ona one-year of directly related experience equivalent to one year of educationor one year of education for one year of experience. However, combinations ofeducation and experience must often be considered on a case-by-case basis.
