Our long-term plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew and replace portions of our installed asset base.
This leadership position is responsible for responsible for the successful delivery of major projects within the organization along with overseeing the complete technical lifecycle of complex engineering projects from concept to completion. It is a strategic role tasked with leading program management, engineering oversight, quality management and construction planning for the delivery of major projects. This will be done through collaborating with stakeholders, team members and consultants to ensure that each project meets strategic objectives along with cost and timeline requirements. This role will rely on a large operational and corporate interface to complete the required scope.

Responsibilities and Requirements:
In fulfilling this mandate, the successful candidate is expected to liaise extensively with the department, program/ project managers, the execution teams and functional hydro managers to ensure their full awareness of the program's requirements. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Building an efficient program management and engineering team by identifying essential project resources for department initiatives.
  • Oversight of the major projects department's program. This consists of overall program execution responsible for the assign multiple scopes.
  • Overseeing the engineering, quality and construction management team(s) who will develop detailed strategies and plans from an owner's perspective.
  • Implementation of project and engineering management strategies for Major Projects.
  • Ensuring development and compliance with quality management strategies and construction management plans for Major Projects.
  • Providing mentorship and training to internal employees to enhance program and project management expertise within the organization for Major Projects.
  • Identifying delivery risks and develop/implement associated risk management plans.
  • Ensuring opportunities for improvement with respect to safety and environment. Proactive support of a safety culture where "Nobody Gets Hurt."
  • Interfacing with project controls function to monitor and report progress of major projects, including any changes and delays. Monitor program deliverables and milestones and ensure compliance with baseline schedules.
  • Interface with project procurement and commercial functions to ensure proper contractual terms and conditions and in place for Major Projects Procurement.

Qualifications:
To excel in this position, you will need to bring the following:

  • Extensive background (15+ years) on large engineering and construction projects. A focus on Electric Utility infrastructure being considered an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with large national and international construction contractors.
  • Strong background in the application of Project Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in developing and leading diverse work teams.
  • Commercially astute individual with a strong background in cost/schedule analysis. Claims management an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • This position requires a high level of initiative, judgement, and collaboration with Project Managers, Engineers, and construction teams.
