Job Summary

The Provincial Comprehensive Respiratory Care (CRC) Program is seeking a Respiratory Therapist II
to join the team as an integral member. The role works closely with the CRC team, leadership,
specialists, primary providers, programs across the organization, and community partners to deliver
services.

Supported by the Division of Respirology, the CRC program is an evidenced based, innovative,
pragmatic strategy to improve and promote lung health. It provides improved access to specialized
care and acts as a bridge between acute and community care for patients living with respiratory
disease. The program has several components including the INSPIRED COPD Outreach Program ?.

The second component is the Comprehensive Respiratory Education Clinic (CREC) where respiratory
assessments diagnostic testing are performed for those living with asthma and COPD. Additionally,
Education and self-management toolkits are provided by Certified Respiratory Educators for patients
living with asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, neuromuscular disease (ALS). Furthermore, the
program offers the Ottawa Model Smoking of Cessation as a service. Most recently, Pulmonary

Rehab is a component of the CRC program. The CRC program offers both in person and virtual
services to patients.

This is a highly autonomous, leadership role while being a vital member of a multidisciplinary team.
The RT II reviews clinical referrals, conducts assessments, develops and administers care plans for
patients, facilitates navigation through the health system for patients, provides comprehensive
education to patients, family and care givers including advanced care planning.

In addition, development of reports and ongoing evaluation of the program is a component of the position. The
RT II will foster partnerships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to help patients
living with respiratory disease.

The RRT II will be responsible for delivering care both virtually and in-person to patients.
Extensive travel throughout NL Health Services will be required. The RT II is required to work a
flexible work agreement to meet the program needs.

This position reports to the Provincial Operations Manager for the Comprehensive Respiratory Care
Program, and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Respiratory
Therapy for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Demands

Constantly moves/lifts up to 10 lbs, regularly moves/lifts up to 25 lbs. and occasionally is required to
reposition/move up to 30 lbs. Pushes/pulls up to medium force.

Constantly walks/stands with occasional fast pace/run; works in awkward positions to
perform/assist with procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their
families in a one to one and group environment.

Ability to prioritize caseload and patient needs.

Ability to be self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of
independence and initiative.

Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)

Ability to forge productive partnerships with community agents and other internal and external
stakeholders.

Constantly uses fine finger/precision, auditory, sensory, and visual concentration to provide clinical
interventions, assess/monitor patients, to complete documentation, etc.

May be subject to time pressures/deadlines and subject to lack of control over work pace.

Job Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited academic program in Respiratory Therapy is required.
Current registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.

Minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Respiratory Therapist in an
acute care setting is as asset.

Current and continuing Certification as a Certified Respiratory Educator is required. If you do not
possess the certification you must be willing to complete the first available opportunity as
determined by the employer. Financial assistance will be provided.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

Note:

A valid Class 5 Driver?s License and use of personal vehicle is required.

Travel throughout the zone/province is required.

A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required
