The Indirect Tax & Controls Analyst is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate
compliance with all indirect tax obligations while supporting the organization's broader
compliance and internal control framework. This role combines technical expertise in
sales/indirect tax with a focus on monitoring, testing, and enhancing internal financial
controls across key business processes.
As an Indirect Tax & Controls Analyst for FMI, you will:
- Tax Compliance & Filing:
- File all sales and US tax returns, 1099 US tax forms and US personal property tax forms, including issuance of exemption certificates.
- Reconcile all tax related GL accounts in the accounting system, Sage 300, and reporting system, Blackline
- Monitoring of Web-SRM program for Quebec locations
- Coordinate annual filing of Blue Box/EEQ forms
- Tax Research & Analysis:
- Research and interpret indirect tax laws across different jurisdictions
- Analyze business transactions to identify tax risks and opportunities for sales tax recoveries
- Audit Support:
- Respond to notices and audit requests from tax authorities
- Prepare audit files for year-end and schedules needed for corporate taxes
- System Management:
- Monitor changes to tax rates for all jurisdictions (Canada and US) and work with the Ops and Menu Maintenance teams to ensure new tax rates are calculating correctly in the POS systems
- Designing & Implementing Controls:
- Establish processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and prevent fraud in tax-related transactions.
- Monitor internal controls, reporting on control deficiencies
- Process Improvement:
- Seek out and implement ways to streamline processes for increased efficiency and reduction of manual errors
- Other duties and projects as assigned by Controller
- Post-secondary education in business, accounting or tax; degree is preferred but will also consider a combination of education plus 5 years of Finance experience
- Enjoys a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
