The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an, Principal Engineer, LoAP Canada to join our Strategic Mine Planning Team.
This is a permanent position.
As the Principal Engineer, LoAP Canada, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining long-term mine plans that align with the company's strategic objectives. This role ensures the integration of geological, geotechnical, environmental, and economic data into robust Life of Mine (LoM) plans, supporting sustainable resource extraction and value maximization.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Develop and maintain Life of Asset and Life of Mine plans, integrating geological models, production forecasts, and economic evaluations.
- Collaborate with geology, geotechnical, processing, and environmental teams to ensure alignment of technical inputs.
- Conduct scenario analysis and trade-off studies to support investment decisions and strategic planning.
- Apply cost modeling techniques to evaluate operational scenarios, optimize resource allocation, and support financial forecasting.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, including NI 43-101 and SEC S-K 1300 compliant disclosures.
- Contribute to the annual business planning cycle and long-range planning processes.
- Monitor and update mine plans based on operational feedback and changing business conditions.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in all planning activities.
About You
Education:
- Bachelors in Mining Engineering
- P.Eng is preferred
- M.Eng is preferred
Experience:
- 12+ years' of work experience
Skills:
- Strong understanding of underground and open-pit mining methods.
- Experience with cost modelling
- Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, MineSight, Vulcan).
- Experience with resource estimation, reserve classification, and economic modeling.
- Experience with large capital projects, with demonstrated project management skills.
- Familiarity with asset management principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Leadership experience or potential to lead cross-functional planning teams.
- Experience with remote (FIFO) operations in the Arctic region.
