Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

Reporting to the Manager, Alumni Relations, specific responsibilities of the Alumni Officer include:

  • Collaborating with departments and campuses to promote, support and advance alumni and community relations opportunities.

  • Creating communications and marketing strategies through a variety of integrated communications methods.

  • Developing and delivering a variety of programs to build alumni awareness and engagement such as graduation services, alumni benefits & services, mentorship, etc.

  • Executing, evaluating and maintaining all day-to-day communications activities.

The Alumni Officer is an integral member of the NSCC Foundation and Alumni Relations team and responsible for developing and delivering strategies to build awareness, interest and engagement for the Alumni Program, and College at large.

As an enthusiastic and organized relationship-builder and communicator you will contribute to the planning and execution of alumni programs, communications, events, and initiatives designed to enhance and strengthen the relationship between NSCC and its over 100,000 alumni.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a college diploma or university degree in communications, public relations, business or marketing.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a post-secondary, fundraising, or a not-for- profit environment with a focus in communications, public relations and relationship-building.
  • Experience as a highly engaging presenter, interviewer and writer.

  • Experience managing projects and volunteers.

  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology.

  • Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Linktree, Hootsuite).

  • Experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, MS Forms, Word, Excel, PPT, Teams, Planner, Loop).

  • Graphic design experience is an asset (Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Express, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • CRM experience is an asset (Raiser's Edge, PeopleSoft).
  • You possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence.

  • You are highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are an effective and engaging communicator with the ability to generate and maintain relationships with all levels of internal partners, alumni, industry, donors, staff, students and the general public.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and on cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to identify and describe issues, present solutions and work with others to implement them.
