About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, Perioperative Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) is one of the collaborators in a perioperative Care Model, providing holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of patients, families. The RN will be part of a team that includes physicians, RN's, and other allied professionals that support elective/emergent/urgent perioperative care. This team of care providers will each use their individual education, scope of practice and standards of practice to provide collaborative and complimentary care to the patients of the perioperative service.
This position requires the registered nurse to practice in a combined Post-Anesthetic Care Unit and Day Surgery role; i.e., able to practice in both areas.
The RN:
Is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care
Provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings
Has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice
Is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes
Supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship
Contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit and coordination of patient care and staffing
Accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities
Practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the Nova Scotia College of Nurses Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of Nova Scotia Health
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
Graduate of Critical Care Nursing Program, or equivalent course, or one-year full-time critical care experience, required
Where we are unable to fill the above qualifications, the below alternative qualifications may be considered:
RNs who express an interest and agree to complete a Critical Care Nursing Program within one year of the date of hire
PACU experience preferred
BLS-C (HCP) required
ACLS required
Demonstrated clinical skills
Effective communication skills
Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
Long-Assignment, Full-Time Position, 75 Hours Bi-Weekly
Shifts include Monday to Friday, and on-call rotations
Must be within 30 minutes for emergency call back
Compensation and Benefits
$40.55- $49.99 Hourly
$51.74 Hourly with 25 years of Registered Nursing experience
