Salary Range: $22.46 to $27.13 per hour
As part of the Student Services Team and reporting to the Head of Customer Service, Library Services and Student Experience, the Library Assistant is responsible for providing a variety of services to users of the Library at respective campuses. The successful candidate will provide user support and assistance for library resources, troubleshoot and escalate any concerns with finding resources as well as assist with reporting and data analysis.
In this role, key responsibilities will be to:
- Determine information needs, handle inquiries and provide assistance to all patrons of the library (e.g. students, faculty, staff).
- Understand the basic principles of Copyright.
- Facilitate onsite and/or virtual orientation presentations of library services and supports.
- Process student and staff IDs.
- Liaise with the instructors and Library Coordinators to provide guidance and support on available resources.
- Assist with the development of self-help guides and aids for students related to services in the library.
- Providing administrative support and guidance to students for accessing Tutoring, Laptop Loans and other services.
- Participate and assist with Library and/or Student Services projects as required.
- Support Accessibility Services with invigilation of Accommodated Testing.
- Assist with collecting data providing reports on the service unit statistics.
Flexible working hours may be required to meet the operating requirements of this position at NBCC.
Education and Experience:
- Certificate or Diploma in a relevant field, with demonstrated recent and related work experience.
Demonstrated experience working in a client service setting.
Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to navigate in a computerized and systems environment across multiple tools and platforms.
- High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to facilitate library sessions and provide guidance on library resources.
Professional Skills:
- Ability to exercise flexibility, and to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to navigate and build relationships with students and stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

Assets:
- Education in a library field and/or demonstrated experience working with library resources, databases, and websites will be considered an asset.
- Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working in a post-secondary environment.
Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License as travel will be required.
