Engineer, Electrical - High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering design and operational support for Electrical systems and equipment with respect to HVDC Specialties.
  • Prepare and/or provide support for the preparation of technical specifications, drawings, schematics, wiring lists, equipment lists and work packages.
  • Participate in developing electrical design standards and guidelines.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of the latest electrical engineering equipment and design techniques applicable to the technical and operational areas of both existing and future requirements.
  • Assist with troubleshooting operational issues with HVDC equipment and systems and may be required to supervise Hydro and Contractor personnel in the solution of these problems.
  • Provide technical support to assist with preparation and execution of predictive maintenance programs, capital and operating projects, and overall asset management.
  • Complete detailed analysis of electrical equipment/system failures and anomalies to determine root causes.

  • Must be self-motivated with demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan work well, and to be well-organized.
  • Solution oriented and demonstrated creative thinking.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative/supportive manner with stakeholders.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or other forms of education within a related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in a related or comparable role.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code, CSA, ANSI, and IEEE Standards.
