Financial Analyst

Key Responsibilities:

You will be primarily responsible for providing analytical support in preparing financial projections and economic/market analysis for entities within the Hydro Group of Companies (including Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro, Lower Churchill, Churchill Falls and Energy Marketing). You will utilize your skills to assist in maintaining and updating comprehensive economic models, corporate assumption updates and projected financial statements in Excel and other decision support software.

While economic modelling forms part of the foundation for this role, your contribution will be driven largely by your finance and business acumen. Possessing a high level of initiative and judgment, you can quickly develop, analyze, interpret and report financial information in order to support financial planning and investment analysis. You will be required to assist in developing, enhancing, maintaining and documenting detailed projection models to reflect the evolving nature of Hydro's lines of business. These models will inform both short term and long term opportunities by evaluating ideas and ensuring decisions made are in the best interest of the people of the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador. In this role you will have the opportunity to participate in a hybrid work arrangement.

What You'll Need:

  • A Professional Accounting Designation or a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) supplemented with experience or training in the preparation of financial statements. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered;
  • Minimum five years progressively responsible experience performing financial or investment analysis;
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required, experience or training in economic model building is an asset;
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities;
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in fast paced, deadline driven environment, while dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information;
  • Eagerness to establish and maintain positive working relationships and to be a team player;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • General knowledge of the hydro electric utility or other capital intensive industry would be considered an asset;
  • Sound knowledge and ability to apply International accounting standards is preferred.
