Position Philosophy
Under the direction or supervision of the Director of Nutrition and Support Services and Food Service Manager the Cook is responsible for creating a human habitat and providing care and services to meet the needs of the elders in the cottages. The Cook works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in our community.
Position Description
Reporting to the Director of Nutrition and Support Services and Food Service Manager, the Cook is responsible to produce all meals and snacks for the dining rooms using production sheets and standardized recipes. Responsible for doing prep work for the next day's menu. The Cook is responsible to complete taste audit, temperature audit and menu substitution audit and do general preparation as required. Receives supplies as required. Also responsible for ensuring resident well-being and safety.
Responsibilities:
Prepares meals for residents and special events, ensuring dietary needs and standard dietary care are met.
The Cook complies with all food preparation standards and health and safety requirements.
Operates and cleans food production equipment
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a recognized cooking program and/or equivalent experience (minimum 1 year experience)
Food Safe Certificate
Must be able to communicate in English language
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
Previous experience in a Residential Care Facility and/or volume Food Preparation environment in the Health Care or Hospitality Industry.
Must have working knowledge of Special Diets.
