Under the direction or supervision of the Maintenance Manager the Housekeeper is responsible for creating a human habitat and providing care and services to meet the needs of the elders in the cottages. The Housekeeping person works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in our community.
Position Description
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Housekeeper person is responsible for housekeeping in a retirement community. Also responsible for ensuring resident well being and safety.
Responsibilities:
Provides housekeeping services in the resident care rooms and common areas in accordance with the established work routines.
To ensure residents are provided with a secure living environment, patrols the building and investigates building access violations in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent
Institutional Cleaning experience
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
Demonstrated empathy and understanding of the needs of continuing care residents
Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skill
Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
Special Requirements
Complexity and Judgment
- The work involves the performance of a variety of routine and non-routine tasks requiring the application of specialized processes and methods. Almost all of the tasks have established procedures and reporting time frames, however on rare occasions there is a requirement for independent thinking and sound judgment.
Accountability
This position is responsible for:
- Cleaning resident rooms and common areas in accordance with established work routines and site policies and procedures.
- Patrolling the building in accordance with established schedules and work routines.
Contatcts
Internal contacts include:
- Sharing information, discussing operational issues, and resolving conflicts with colleagues and supervisor.
- Interacting with residents and families while carrying out their normal duties.
External contacts include:
- Exchanging information with suppliers and outside security personnel i.e. police, ambulance attendants, etc.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands - Long periods of time spent standing and walking while patrolling the building. Bending, stretching and lifting while cleaning.
- Mental Demands - Required to remain alert and pay attention to details
Working Environment - The work performed in a retirement community. At times there are requirements to clean up after unpleasant accidents and spills
