Position: Environmental Worker
Department: Environmental Services
Responsible To: Director of Environmental Services and Maintenance
Date: September 3, 2025
Position Summary: Responsible for performing a variety of housekeeping functions in response to the daily workload requirements. To provide a clean, infection-controlled environment in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the Home, and meet the appropriate environmental and safety standards for long term care

Responsibilities:
- Promote and maintain the safety and security of residents, staff and visitors at all times
- Collect garbage on assigned wings daily
- Sweep/vacuum and mop floors daily
- Polish floors on assigned areas on designated days or as needed
- Clean and disinfect all washrooms daily
- Dust furniture, window sills, heaters, lights and ornaments daily
- Clean and sanitize high touch hard surfaces according to infection control procedures daily
- Auto scrub corridors daily.
- Clean and disinfect beds monthly or as needed.
- Replenish paper towels, toilet tissue, and hand soap as needed
- Remove spots on walls, doors, baseboards, in corners and along corridors
- Requisition supplies as per schedule and limit, to stock janitor closets weekly
- Store and replenish all chemicals and soaps for use by Housekeeping/Laundry Services.
- Complete periodic floor finishing's as scheduled.
- Thoroughly clean rooms that have been vacated and during housecleaning (walls, curtains, room dividers, furniture, doors, bathroom and also strip the floors)
- Vacuum door and ceiling vents, behind furniture and in closets monthly.
- Thoroughly clean office work areas weekly collect garbage and clean bathrooms daily.
- Clean resident rooms, corridors, lobbies, stairwells, elevator, lounges and kitchenettes daily.
- Maintain all cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and sanitary working condition.
- Monitor and report necessary maintenance issues and safety hazards.
- Operate various types of mechanical cleaning/laundry equipment
- Clean housekeeping/laundry carts daily.
- Launder, fold and deliver clothing.
- Fill requistion orders and delivery to assigned areas throughout the facility.
- Sewing, labelling clothing.
- Other related duties as directed by the Departmental Manager
These job duties are only the basic and prime duties of the job; related and allied duties will be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation in all parts of the home.
Qualifications: Must possess a Grade 12 education
Other Requirements:
- Good general health which allows for the ability to attend work on a regular basis and meet the physical demands of the position
- Ability to bend, lift, carry, push and handle equipment and other items required to perform duties
- Normal vision, manual dexterity and motor coordination are required to handle equipment efficiently
- Able to read, write, follow oral and written instruction without constant supervision
- Ability to comprehend and learn techniques for the use and care of equipment
- Good personal hygiene
- Practices all safety and infection control procedures
- Reliable transportation and able to attend drivable winter weather.
- In accordance with the organization's Police Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to submit a Police Record /Vulnerable Check Clearance

- To be knowledgeable of cleaning and sanitation products, techniques and methods
- To have working knowledge of operating cleaning equipment
- To follow infection prevention and control guidelines for a Long Term Care Facility
Developmental Duties:
- Attend in-services, educational and training sessions for self development
- Attend compulsory fire safety orientation and WHIMS programs yearly
Hours of Work: housekeeping 8:00am - 4:00pm laundry 7-3, 8-4, 9-5. May be required weekends and holidays and minimula shift work.
