In this role, you will :

  • Collaborate with emergency response managers to understand staffing needs in order to meet service delivery expectations and communicate changes, gaps and forecasts.
  • Respond promptly to HR inquiries from managers, employees, and volunteers by providing advice, resolving workplace and interpersonal issues, supporting investigations and HR processes, and coordinating scheduling and workforce planning to meet operational needs.
  • Ensure standard practices, employment standards, human resources policies and procedures, emergency response standard operating procedures, learning and development solutions and response-specific guidelines are implemented in a consistent, coherent manner.
  • Build relationships with clients and collaborate with stakeholders to identify their needs, provide services, gather information, build consensus and solve problems.
  • Promote and support staff wellness and identify opportunities to improve the work environment, strengthen the sense of inclusion; implement strategies that promote wellness and individual empowerment; observe and communicate standard precautions for compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Provide insights on operational priorities to support the planning and development of team schedules; support and collaborate with operational teams throughout the emergency response and establish work and reception areas for the HR team assigned to response sites.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documents, reports, and presentations for management and stakeholders by ensuring data integrity in HR systems, analyzing relevant metrics, and generating insights to support effective decision-making and planning.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and engagement of HR emergency response team members and the ongoing update of local HR team response plans.
  • Stay current with best practice and legislation and contribute to updating of policies, processes, and standards

What we are looking for :

  • Qualifications include a minimum of 4-7 years experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in human resources, business or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require technical certifications or professional designations.
  • Fluency in English is required, French is an asset
  • Ability to identify, investigate and analyze problems, identify root causes and risks, and apply technical, functional and organizational knowledge to develop solutions.
  • Communication skills, diplomacy and empathy to interpret information and deliver advice, clarify client or stakeholder needs, offer solutions, and resolve escalations in new or somewhat sensitive situations
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and experience with HR Systems
  • Ability to apply human resources legislation, policies, programs and best practices.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders
  • Ability to understand and ensure work is completed in compliance with applicable data and privacy policy and legislation.

Working Conditions :

  • All teams contributing to emergency response efforts directly or indirectly.
  • All CRC roles are required to adapt work and priorities to support emergency response efforts, be present in person as required to support service delivery and deploy to emergency responses when appropriate and/or required (personnel availability and request for exceptions will be discussed with line management).
  • For CRC roles that are assigned a function in the Emergency Relief operational structure (in field and virtual), personnel may be required to be part of an on-call roster and be available for scheduled on-call work.
  • As we work with and support people (managers, colleagues, beneficiaries/customers, volunteers, donors and external partners) and communities in Canada and around the world, applicants whose first language is not English may be required to perform the responsibilities of the role in English.
