- Maintain the grounds surrounding the building, ensuring it is safe and aesthetically pleasing
- Manage and conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections/checks
- Assists with moving and storage of supplies and equipment
- Report on equipment malfunctions
- Maintain and make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, electrical systems, etc.
- Performs other routine maintenance such as painting, drywall repair etc.
- Contact and follow-up with contractors, technicians, and service representatives utilized by the organization when necessary
- Available for emergency calls
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
- Minimum of Grade 12 plus experience in building maintenance, such as carpentry, painting, plumbing or electrical.
- Journeyperson Certificate in a construction trade such as carpentry, electrical, or plumbing OR a Building System Technician certificate from an accredited Community College would be considered assets. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Must possess a valid class 5 NS driver's license and have a good driving record: willing to obtain a class 4 within 6 months of employment.
- Demonstrated communication and problem solving skills; as well as the ability to take direction, and make informed decisions in an emergency, as well as on a daily basis.
- The ability and desire to relate courteously and effectively with residents, contractors, and staff
- Knowledge of WHMIS and safe storage of chemicals
