The Opportunity

The successful candidate will work primarily with the Human Resources Division as Case Manager responsible for the City's Disability Management Program. The City's Disability Management Program is designed to promote employee health and recovery from disability through active claims management along with early and safe return to work and other programs.

Accountabilities

• Facilitate disability case management by coordinating health care and early intervention working collaboratively with Department management and Human Resources Advisors to promote the safe and timely return to work of ill or injured employees.
Collaborate with the occupational health and safety team to keep work environments as safe as possible.
• Provide health counselling and initiate referral services to other health care professionals (for example, physicians, psychologists, physiotherapists).
• Facilitate fitness for work assessments based on established criteria (ie. New hire, job transfer, return to work etc.) Coordinate screening programs (i.e. audiometric testing, ergonomic assessments, alcohol and drug testing, blood pressure screening)
• Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs for effective employee wellness initiatives.
• Prepare and maintain confidential employee health records on Human Resource Information System.
• Collect and assess data (for example, incidents of illness, injury) to identify trends and participate in evaluating the effectiveness of safety or wellness programs.
• Conduct training presentations on injury/illness prevention and disability management.
• Employer liaison Workplace NL and health professionals, building effective, professional working relationships with representatives of these agencies.
•Represent the City with various external proceedings

The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work. Qualifications

Applicants must have successfully graduated from a recognized university with a bachelor's degree in a health related discipline, Human Resources or Business Administration.
Five years' experience in disability management.
Working knowledge of HR computer software for data management, presentations, communications or medical testing and reporting on HR Metrics. Strong organizational and execution skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with and build relationships with staff, managers, Council, labour leaders and other agency representatives. Results oriented

Working Conditions

Office environment work at desk, PC, phone. Travel within the City to other facilities. Meetings with clients/groups which can have similar or divergent opinions and objectives. The City has a flexible work protocol which may apply to this position subject to operational requirements.

Hours of Work

Monday - Friday
9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
