Reporting to the Appointed Actuary, the successful candidate will assist with actuarial liability calculations and the preparation of data for monthly and quarterly analyses. He will also participate to the Financial Condition Testing (FCT) analysis and to the calculation of the regulatory solvency ratio (LICAT), while contributing to a variety of departmental projects.
Actuarial Liabilities Calculations
- Perform actuarial liability calculations and contribute to quarterly analyses.
- Configure and code new products based on established assumptions.
- Contribute to asset/liability management (ALM), including the production of cash flows.
- Participate in the calculation of regulatory capital ratios (LICAT).
- Prepare, validate, and analyze the data required for actuarial valuations.
- Deliver requested information and analyses within required deadlines.
- Provide support to other members of the actuarial team.
Financial
- Update input files to be used in calculations.
- Perform projection calculations under various scenarios in the actuarial projection tool and carry out required validations.
Experience Studies
- Conduct periodic updates of studies in line with established schedules (e.g., mortality, lapses, etc.).
- Participate in the development of recommendations and reports.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
- 0-2 years of professional experience in the life insurance sector.
- University degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematics from a Canadian university offering a program accredited by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, OR
- University degree in a related field and at least 2 SOA exams passed.
- Basic knowledge of life insurance and financial products.
- Basic understanding of actuarial and accounting standards, including IFRS 17.
- Basic knowledge of insurance products, financial markets, and investments.
- Basic knowledge of Canadian regulatory requirements, including LICAT and OSFI guidelines.
- Knowledge of and strong skills in SQL and VBA programming.
- Proficiency with actuarial platforms (e.g., AVE, AXIS) is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong skills in other office productivity tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
