Join the City of Fredericton as a Firefighter and play a key role in safeguarding the community.
Candidates must meet the physical and certification requirements, as well as demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and public safety. Employed to the Fredericton Fire Department suppression unit in a full-time capacity includes a forty-two (42) hour work week, on a four (4) Platoon system, with twenty-four (24) hours on duty, followed by 72 hours off duty. The career progression classification steps for new employees begin with relief firefighter, and proceed on to Firefighter 4th Class through to 1st Class. Compensation package will be in accordance with the IAFF1053 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Requirements:
- Graduation from a recognized Fire Training Institution or equivalent certification (IFSAC and/or PROBOARD FF Level 1 & 2)
- Must meet departmental medical and physical standards and obtain security clearance.
- A Class III license with air endorsement is considered an asset when applying and will be required to complete the probationary period as a condition of employment.
- Firefighting and First Responders experience as well as First Aid, and CPR Certification are considered assets.
What You Will Do:
- Respond to emergencies.
- Maintains cleanliness of the station.
- Respond to fire alarms; supports the crew with various tasks.
- Provide protection against fires, combat, extinguish and prevention of fire.
- Protect lives and property and maintain related equipment.
- Responsible for hazardous material control, emergency medical assistance, and assistance at accident scenes.
- Responsible to perform various duties rapidly and efficiently under emergency conditions that may involve considerable hazard.
- Performs station tours and other public education tasks as assigned.
- When assigned to Fire Prevention assist in performing inspections and clerical duties as required.

- Ability to work under arduous conditions as part of an active firefighting and rescue team.
- Ability to speak in both official languages is considered an asset.
Recruitment Process:
Applicants must be prepared to potentially make multiple trips to Fredericton over a short time period. The associated transportation costs and written test fee will be the responsibility of the applicant.
