Job Summary
Urgent Care is a key part of the Primary Health Care (PHC) system, providing same-day access for individuals with urgent, but non-emergency, health concerns. Grounded in the principles of PHC, Urgent Care offers patient-centered, team-based, and evidence-informed care that enhances timely access, reduces reliance on emergency departments, and aligns with the goals of the Health Accord by improving access to the right level of care at the right time, in the most appropriate setting.
As an essential member of the interdisciplinary Urgent Care team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN I) delivers safe, compassionate, and comprehensive care in a fast-paced, outpatient setting. Within their scope of practice, the LPN I is accountable for performing health assessments, providing wound care, administering medications and intravenous therapy, monitoring and supporting patients before, during, and after procedures, and recognizing and responding to urgent or emergent situations. The LPN I also promotes health literacy, educates patients and families on disease processes and treatments, and contributes to smooth patient flow and overall service quality. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, clerical staff, and allied health professionals, the LPN I plays a vital role in ensuring timely, accessible, and high-quality urgent care.
