Job Summary

The Communications Coordinator will work as part of the Communications team and as part of the Strategy and Operations service area to support the overall operations and strategic objectives of NSCN. Reporting to the Communications Lead, this role will provide communications support on a variety of operational strategies, both internal and external to the organization and support the organization's day-to-day digital presence. The Communications Coordinator also supports and executes communications plans, strategies, tactics and materials in support of NSCN's equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging (EDIB) objectives. The Communications Coordinator will also actively contribute to the Strategy and Operations team to support meeting the NSCN vision, mission, values and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, organizing, executing and monitoring of internal and external communications plans, strategies and related activities.
  • Participate collaboratively in internal, cross functional committees, teams and/or projects as a communications representative and on behalf of the Strategy and Operations team.
  • Contribute to and implement digital communications design and content for the organization's multi-channel platforms, including the e-newsletter, organizational emails, online advertisements, social media, organizational reports, and video content.
  • Serve as writer and editor for day-to-day communications, using plain language principles, developing and applying standard document formats, and engaging key audiences through a clear and inclusive consultation process.
  • Contribute to and implement the day-to-day social media, including but not limited to: writing posts, developing graphics, reporting analytics, creating and managing the organization's overall online social media presence.
  • Contribute to the development of support documents and resources for nurses
  • Co-lead the communications work on the NSCN website, with accessibility and the user experience in mind. This includes:
    • Developing content for new or existing pages as needed
    • Proofreading new or revised content
    • Building new pages and revising out of date pages
    • Refresh current web pages by reviewing pages, adding new contact information and updating layout
    • Creating webforms to support NSCN events and programs
    • Implement new strategies based on website analytics and feedback and finding new ways to engage key audiences through the website.
  • Contribute to NSCN's EDIB journey as an inclusive communicator and apply an EDIB lens to all internal and external communications work to meet the diverse communication needs of our audiences.
  • Assist in implementing the organization's media strategy, including: media relations, facilitating day-to-day media monitoring, and providing support to the Communications team as required.

About You:

You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and can adapt messages for diverse audiences using inclusive and accessible language. You have experience working on multiple, organization-wide projects and understand the importance of prioritizing your work. You are organized, dependable and can quickly adapt to a changing environment. You are a team player who understands the importance of collaboration and can build relationships with colleagues, NSCN key audiences and media representatives with ease. You believe in the value that the communications role can bring to the organization and are motivated to keep informed of best practice, with the confidence to bring ideas and solutions forward in the best interest of NSCN.

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in public relations or communications or diploma in public relations/communications with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 4-5 years of communication experience.
  • Knowledge and practical experience managing digital communications platforms such as: open source websites, email marketing platforms, social media management platforms and social media sites.
  • Experience with digital and graphic design, video creation, and podcasting considered an asset (i.e., Adobe Creative Cloud, PowerPoint, etc.).
