The Department of Natural Resources is seeking an individual to join the Forest Operations and Development Branch as a Security Officer, at the Kingsclear Provincial Forest Nursery, located at Island View.

As a member of the Nursery operations team and reporting to the Nursery Operations Coordinator, the selected candidate will be responsible for performing night security, including patrols and inspections of buildings, equipment, and property. Assigned duties also involve tasks related to Nursery operations, such as oversight of seedling crops and crop production support systems for irrigation, cooling, and heating; snow clearing; and performing other general duties as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

ASSET QUALIFICATION(S): Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following: a minimum of one (1) or two (2) years of security related work experience; previous work experience in a forest nursery environment. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

  • Knowledge of general nursery operations, maintenance, and equipment;
  • Ability to use office technology, software and applications;
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures;
  • Planning and organizing skills.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: work a 40-hour week, perform shift work; work alone at night; work with a high degree of independence and judgment; operate light vehicles and equipment; wear appropriate safety clothing and follow all safety protocols; perform physical tasks as required; work extended hours and weekends as required; possess a valid Class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick, or equivalent. The selected candidate will be required to provide a current successful Canadian Police Information Centre reference check (CPIC) prior to being offered the position.

SALARY: $25.27 per hour (based on a 40-hour week)
