Job Description

The City of Fredericton is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Analyst to join our Finance team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the City's fiscal health by performing financial analysis, assisting in budget preparation, monitoring financial performance, and supporting strategic financial planning. Reporting to the Assistant City Treasurer, this position will play an integral role in oversight of spending on City services.

Qualifications required:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field.

Two (2) to Five (5) years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or public sector finance.

Experience with municipal or government finance is strongly preferred.

Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly Oracle Fusion and use of Excel

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work collaboratively.

What You'll do:

Analyze and interpret financial data for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting purposes with emphasis on internal audits.

Assist in the preparation, monitoring and analysis of the annual operating and capital budgets.

Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal departments and city officials.

Monitor departmental expenditures and revenue streams for variances and compliance with municipal regulations.

Assist with grant and funding applications, and ensure proper reporting and documentation.

Collaborate with internal departments to provide financial guidance and decision-support.

Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and government accounting standards.

System monitoring and functionality for issues that may arise through quarterly patches.

First point of contact for departments/divisions requiring financial assistance.

What You Bring:

The ability to work autonomously

Knowledge and application of policies and procedures related to purchasing and corporate credit card use.

Provide direction or guidance, as necessary, to CLT to ensure these policies and procedures are followed.

Develop recommendations through internal audit techniques and ensure that departments/divisions are appropriately purchasing, coding and ultimately reporting on expenditures.

Ability to apply rationale and justification of expenses as it pertains to purchasing policies of the City in the context of the services that are provided.

Continuous improvement mindset and to help modernize and improve processes and reporting.
