Qualifications:
? Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in the area of social sciences (e.g., child and youth care, community services);
? Specialized training in addictions, mental health and motivational interviewing;
? Experience working with children and youth is required;
? Ability to:
? establish and sustain rapport with youth who mistrust or challenge authority;
? actively listen and elicit youth perspectives;
? collaborate with other service providers without compromising their alliance with the youth;
? The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties (Included but not limited to):
? Meets and converses with youth in their settings;
? Demonstrates a non-judgmental attitude in responding to youths? perspectives and choices;
? Educates youth on specific health risks associated with substance use and sexual practices;
? Screens for potential problem substance use and mental health concerns and assists with referrals;
? Links youth with services that address basic needs, such as shelter, food and clothing or health care;
? Assists youth in navigating the system and understanding referral processes;
? Accompanies youth to preliminary appointments with health care and other service providers;
? Provides supportive counseling services through brief interventions;
? Establishes and maintains partnerships with youth-serving agencies and community groups;
? Provides support to other members of the multidisciplinary team across the region, which may include providing coverage and/or traveling to various parts of the region to assist with service delivery;
? Performs other related duties as required.
