POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Shoppe Retail Sales Clerk

JOB SUMMARY:

In accordance with Hospice plans and policies, the Hospice Shoppe Clerks are responsible to support the effective operations and maximum profit of The Shoppe under the direction of The Shoppe Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inventory Responsibilities:

Maintaining positive donor relations by building a welcoming, helpful, caring environment and ensuring they are registered with one donation number.

Receiving donations, culling, pricing and maintaining adequate inventory for sales on the floor.

Supporting an effective volunteer base.

Meeting, communicating, and taking direction from the Shoppe Manager.

Cashier and Customer Service Responsibilities:

Maintaining positive customer relations by building a welcoming, helpful, caring environment.

Representing Hospice and informing shoppers about Hospice - what the money is being used for and how their support is making a difference.

Helping customers to find and purchase unique treasurers and actively up selling when possible.

Ensuring customer checkout is smooth and efficient and that the cash is balanced.

Supporting the opening and closing of the store by ensuring all windows and doors are locked and secured, lights turned out, the alarm is set etc.

Supporting Hospice's efforts at reducing goods sent to the garbage/landfill.

Meeting and communicating with the Shoppe Manager and making positive recommendations for improving customer service and increasing sales.

Other duties as required.

Workplace Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Participating in proactive health and safety activities while performing all duties.

Maintaining safe workplace practices.

Notifying the Shoppe Managers of any health and safety risks or concerns.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:

The Shoppe Clerk must demonstrate ongoing competency and a commitment to continuous quality improvement in completing all duties and responsibilities as detailed in this job description, in accordance with all Hospice polices and approved plans.

Performance Targets:

The Shoppe Clerk must demonstrate ongoing competency and a commitment to continuous quality improvement while completing all duties and responsibilities as detailed in the job description, in accordance with all Hospice polices and approved plans.

1. To maximize the net profit to Hospice by:

Averaging $2,000 per day in sales.

Keeping discretionary expenses to a minimum.

Reducing expenses.

Balancing the cash daily at the register.

2. To drive sales by:

Maintaining a clean, uncluttered, "Boutique" ambiance and atmosphere

Ensuring customers and donors have an excellent experience that encourages them to return and to tell their friends/family

Ensuring quality merchandise with appropriate pricing is on the floor

Supporting a high inventory turn-over by regularly culling merchandise and/or re-positioning it in the store

3. To support and maintain a quality work environment by:

Creating a team environment that respects and supports one another and effectively reporting/dealing with inappropriate performance issues

Ensuring all operational systems are in order including phones, computers, alarm systems, air conditioning, etc.

4. To work as a committed member of the Hospice staff team by:

Respecting and abiding by all Hospice policies, plans and decisions

Positioning and supporting The Shoppe as a primary fundraising program that supports end-of-life care at Bobby's Hospice and in the community

Working in full cooperation with the Hospice staff and positively abiding by all management decisions

Maintaining confidentiality and honoring the Code of Conduct and Ethics Pledge

Qualifications:

· Mature, responsible business professional with retail, sales and customer service expertise.

· Strong desire to support the work of Hospice Greater Saint John and be a dedicated staff team member

· Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills with a warm, compassionate, caring, pleasant and customer-driven attitude.

· Must have the ability to work in a supportive manner with staff members and guide volunteers in a professional, positive environment.

· Organized, efficient, flexible, resourceful and comfortable in a fast-paced and changing non-profit business environment.

· Ability to prioritize multiple functions and tasks.

· Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, reach and lift without limitations throughout the entire shift.

· Participates in and/or supports Hospice activities (i.e., Walk, Recognition Night, Valentine Gala etc.)

· The ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Computer literate - MS Word, Excel, etc. and ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
