Salary: $21.80 per hour
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, Facilities and Ancillary Services, the Custodial Worker I is responsible for ensuring the care of the NBCC buildings and related grounds of the Miramichi campus.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining an assigned area in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with required standards.
- Cleaning and minor maintenance duties in campus buildings and adjacent grounds using proper methods and materials in the cleaning and caring for buildings and equipment.
- Mopping and scrubbing floors, waxing and polishing floors and furniture.
- Cleaning washrooms and replacing supplies.
- Disposing of garbage.
- Moving heavy furniture and equipment.
- Readying premises for instructors and students by setting up classrooms and meeting rooms to specifications.
- Performing grounds maintenance such as cutting grass, shoveling snow and cleaning walks.
Hours of work for this position will be on an as needed basis; however, regular hours of work are based on a 40- hour work week. Additional overtime and weekend work may be required. This position may require shift work.
These job duties represent only the basic duties of the job. Related and allied duties may be assigned as they become necessary for the operation of NBCC. Employees must have basic computer skills including word processing, email and data entry.
Education and Experience:
- The completion of high school or GED with related work experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of three (3) months of recent and related experience.
- Highly flexible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate and build relationships effectively throughout the organization.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods with physical stamina and endurance for demanding tasks.
- Familiarity with cleaning products, tools, and safe handling of chemicals, along with proper cleaning techniques.
- Strong time-management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Training in specialized equipment (e.g., floor buffers) and certification for handling biohazards or hazardous chemicals may be required, with WHMIS training provided.
