Reporting to the Director, Category, the Manager, Merchandising Systems leads the strategic execution and is responsible for the management of listing function within Shopper Engagement Team. The Manager, Merchandising Systems works collaboratively with Director of Category, Director of Insights and Strategy, and the Category Team by leading strategic recommendations and decision-making impacts from listing team. This is a key role for Shopper Engagement and requires intense cross functional collaboration within the overall organization to ensure strong and positive working relationships. The Manager, Merchandising Systems is also responsible for coaching and developing the listing team.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead Listing team in being efficient and effective while executing responsibilities with excellence; provide feedback and direction with a focus on coaching and mentoring
    • Have weekly 1-1 check-in with each listing coordinator; work with each listing coordinator to finalize yearly priorities; triage day to day activity and prioritize tasks; have weekly check-ins with both Category Managers to review priorities, update progresses and timelines for listing functions, understand upcoming listing requirements
  • Lead effective collaboration for Shopper Engagement as the liaison with all other NSLC Business Units by working with others in the design, development and implementation of corporate business initiatives
    • Be the Shopper Engagement lead in cross functional teams by attending meetings/Teams calls and take notes and share updates with Director, Category during weekly 1-1 check-in; consult and engage with Shopper Engagement leadership team on corporate business initiatives
  • Collaborate with Customer Experience team on the communication and execution of listing initiatives by attending Regional Director meetings, formal and informal connections with Manager, Business Integration Customer Experience, participating in period execution calls with store teams and Shopper Engagement
    • Ensure Master data elements are consistently applied across all categories, and interact consistently in SAP, BOS, The External website, and all other places where the data shows up.
    • Ensure Master data elements, related to articles, are understood and relevant to the Customer Experience team members and ultimately Shopper.
  • Collaborate with all NSLC teams on the execution of item master data processes
    • Engage and consult with Data Integrity and Reporting Analyst on accuracy of data input by listing coordinators, ways to continually improve accuracy, ways to input data more efficiently.
    • Engage and consult with other teams on improving hand off information/data flow coming from listing coordinators to make processes faster and more efficient
    • Engage and consult with other teams to streamline processes
  • Lead Shopper Engagement efforts in business readiness for ERP project
    • Engage and consult with Shopper Engagement Leadership team to understand how we use current ERP system; what are areas of improvement; what are our strengths and weaknesses in using ERP; what processes need to be adjusted before project begins
  • Lead collaborator and contact in the ERP project for Shopper Engagement
    • Attends and is an active/engaged participant in all project meetings for Shopper Engagement; consults with various Shopper Engagement Leaders to prepare for each session depending on the specific content required; provides summaries and action plans for Shopper Engagement throughout the ERP Project; ensures Shopper Engagement team provides required information for project on time and in full; provides weekly project updates to Shopper Engagement Senior Leadership team
  • Develop, document and maintain processes for Shopper Engagement team in collaboration with each sub team, by researching best practices in retail environments, investigating what other Canadian jurisdictions do
    • Meets with each Shopper Engagement team to understand and document each process; reviews and analyzes processes to find efficiencies; connects with other retailers and jurisdictions and collections information on their practices, then compares to Shopper Engagement practices; collaborates with Manager, Process and Change to improve Shopper Engagement processes

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in meetings with suppliers as necessary
  • Demonstrate commitment to NSLC's Values, social responsibility mandate and workplace health and safety
  • Demonstrates commitment to NSLC Service Standards and Service Commitment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned; some travel required, primarily within Nova Scotia
  • Liaise with IT, Finance, Strategy & Insights to ensure data and financial integrity standards are met
  • Provide back-up support to Managers Space Planning and Pricing as required

Qualifications

As a qualified candidate you will have:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Minimum five years progressive management experience in merchandising and/or marketing in a retail environment
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems in a retail/merchandising environment, with preference in ERP implementation

As an ideal candidate you will have:

  • Five to ten years management experience in retail operations
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Retail Management

An alternate combination of education and experience may be considered equivalent.
