Plant Engineer - Mechanical

The Plant Engineer - Mechanical provides mechanical engineering services to support the generation of electricity at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Station HTGS). The successful candidate will act as the Single Point Accountable (SPA) for assigned mechanical assets, which will include steam turbines, condensers, heat exchangers, and major pumps; providing support to Operations and Maintenance (Work Execution) Groups as required to ensure safe and reliable performance. The successful candidate will ensure that assigned equipment and facilities are properly installed, Environmental Guidelines are followed, and maintenance is performed in accordance with approved engineering directives, standards, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promotes safety always - leads by example.
- Complies with the Corporation's Health and Safety Policy as it applies to the design, purchasing, operation and maintenance of the Plant and equipment.
- Monitors and enhances the effectiveness of the HTGS Maintenance Program. Reviews maintenance repair history and cost to determine recurring problems, repairs, modification, overhaul, or corrective maintenance needs, and writes reports on findings.
- Performs audits of maintenance records to ensure maintenance activities are performed to standards (frequency, directive, etc.).
- Monitors the performance of operating equipment, identifies issues, and plans interventions.
- Prepares requests for capital funding for future projects and for equipment failures. Suggests proposals based on the latest developments in industry for plant betterment.
- Takes responsibility to troubleshoot issues involving the maintenance or operation of assigned assets. Leads troubleshooting team, which could include plant skilled trades, internal and external experts. Ensures that all mechanical failures and malfunctions are investigated, writes formal reports on findings as required, and implements remedial measures.
- Updates Engineering Directive Program to ensure maintenance services are conducted in accordance with technical requirements and industry best practices.
- Provides engineering design.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of applicable engineering codes, Corporate Policy and Procedures, Work Protection Code, Management of Change Protocol and the Corporate Health & Safety Manual.
- Reviews, develops, tenders, awards and manages service contracts as required.
- Assesses newly installed equipment to ensure that critical spares are identified and placed in inventory, operating and maintenance manuals are complete and all necessary drawings are provide
- Assists in the development and maintenance of the 5 and 20-year Capital Plans
- Assists in the development and maintenance of the 10 year Maintenance Plan.
- Participates in the Environmental Management System (EMS) and the specific duties as described in the EMS.
- Assists Manager, Long Term Asset Planning - Thermal with the preparation of Operating and Capital Budgets.
- Assists Manager, Long Term Asset Planning - Thermal co-ordinate Mechanical projects within Thermal Production.
- Ensures that scheduled Thermal Production objectives are met as agreed.
- Performs other duties as required.
What You'll Need:
- Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mechanical) with five years of relevant experience.
- You will be eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).
- Proven communication, team and leadership skills.
- Must possess and maintain an appropriate valid driver's license.
