Engineer, Protection and Controls

Key Responsibilities:
The Protection, Controls, and Communications department is responsible for providing technical engineering support for the operation and maintenance of all Hydro facilities. We also complete detailed design for capital and operating projects involving protection and control systems, as well communications systems for Hydro's regulated terminal stations, generating stations, and control structures, as well as transmission and distribution systems.
As a P&C Engineer in our department, you will be involved in a wide range of technologies including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), other auxiliary package automation systems, and protective devices. You will:
- Design plant automation and monitoring systems
- Program controllers (PLC or DCS systems) and HMIs
- Prepare detailed design drawings
- Prepare equipment configurations and settings
- Prepare contract documents and technical specifications
- Assess new technologies and determine optimal solutions
- Select and procure P&C equipment
- Provide on-site supervision and support during installation and commissioning
- Interface with other discipline engineers and operations staff on a diverse array of projects and operational issues
What We're Looking For:

What You'll Need:
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree - Electrical Engineering preferred; Process or Mechatronics Engineering will also be considered; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) as either a professional member or engineer-in-training.
- Experience in the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of protection and control equipment and systems.
- Experience in preparing specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience in an assortment of controller and HMI programming languages would be an asset.
- Experience in the integration of various communication protocols would be an asset.
