The Loss Prevention Associate plays a key supportive role in providing frontline security and loss prevention expertise. Responsible for ensuring a safe retail environment for our employees, shoppers and guests at all NSLC locations. This support will be provided by identifying and minimizing incidents via risk mitigation strategies, collaboration with the Security Operations Center, and partnership with retail team members.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders through incident response, crime prevention and industry best practices
- Educate and provide guidance to retail employees on safety programs, loss prevention strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Utilizing case management software to identify patterns of criminality or workplace violence.
- Maintain a visible presence on the sales floor, deterring potential theft through engaging with known suspects and denying entry to NSLC locations.
- Regularly patrol the sales floor to deter retail crime, and check for security vulnerabilities.
- Identify and respond to criminal incidents within established security protocols. At times, this may include a physical intervention to recover NSLC property or deny entry to a location.
- De-escalate situations involving dissatisfied or disruptive individuals while maintaining professional composure.
- Maintain relationship through regular communications with Security Operators in the SOC.
- Provide investigative support to the internal team, law enforcement other and external agencies
- Prepare and file investigation notes, recommendations, and outcomes
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Provide input in the effective development of Loss Prevention programs
- Escalate security hardware deficiencies to the security operations center for resolution.
- Attend court as required on behalf of the NSLC
- Demonstrate commitment to the NSLC's Values and social responsibility mandate
- Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety
- Travel and work on-call as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
As a qualified candidate, you will have:
- Post-secondary education in criminal justice, and protective security services (or related experience)
- 3-5 years' experience in the field of Loss Prevention, enforcement and/or corporate security
- Training or Certification in De-Escalation, Defense tactics or related experience
- Be willing to work shift work (based on operational needs during retail hours, shifts are likely Monday to Saturdays with occasional Sunday including a bi-weekly rotation of days, evenings)
- Able to pass a security back-ground check
- Valid NS Driver's License with ability to produce a clear Driver's Abstract and access to reliable transportation.
As the ideal candidate, you will also have:
- Experience in the field of law enforcement and/or retail risk management
- Experience in conducting or assisting in criminal, civil or compliance investigations
- Training, certification and/or experience in security hardware such as lock and cameras
An alternate combination of education and experience may be considered equivalent.
