The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mine Ventilation Specialist to join our Mines Technical Services team at Creighton Mine in Sudbury, ON.

This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide ventilation technical services to the mine in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner that protects the integrity of the mine's ventilation system. This position will report directly to the Manager, Mines Technical Services. This vacancy is a non-ladder position.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Follow and apply Safe Production principles.
  • Assist the Manager, Mines Technical Services with legislative compliance requirements pertaining to ventilation monitoring.
  • Implement the mine ventilation execution plan with the assistance of ventilation technologists.
  • Lead the mid-range ventilation planning process. Create ventilation staging plans for development and production as part of the planning cycles.
  • Assist the planning team with the development of the long-range ventilation plan.
  • Assist operations to ensure integrity of assets, compliance to standards and legislative requirements.
  • Provide guidance to management during emergencies through coordination and implementation of the mine Emergency Fire Procedures to ensure safety of all employees during an emergency
  • Develop scopes of work with respect to required ventilation studies and projects improve and optimize mine sustainability
  • Assist the Manager, Mines Technical Services with the mentorship of other technical personnel to ensure ventilation systems operate as designed.

About You

Education:

  • University or Community College Graduate in Mines Engineering, Mines Technology or other associated discipline or equivalent. Special consideration will be given to candidates with Ventilation specific or related courses and/or "Certified" Engineering Technologists.

Experience:

  • 5 – 7 years of relevant ventilation specific experience in an underground mining organization.

Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office business applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Deswik and VentSim.
  • Knowledge of project management; ability to review mining proposals with respect to ventilation design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ventilation modeling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mining and environmental legislative requirements as they pertain to ventilation.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, operations and management.
