Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Laboratory Medicine, the Public Health Laboratory Informatician (PHLI) at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory (PHL) is accountable for managing the Laboratory Information System (LIS) as well as managing surveillance databases and reporting. The PHLI is responsible for the analysis of laboratory data for disease trends, public health surveillance, policy development, and process improvement; management of the molecular epidemiology database; and supporting independent and collaborative research and development activities.
This PHLI is the Provincial representative at Federal/Provincial/Territorial meetings and networks related to public health laboratory informatics, surveillance and molecular epidemiology. The PHL is the central diagnostic laboratory for infectious diseases in the Province providing primary diagnostic services and reference services to each of the four Regional Health Authorities as well as providing provincial surveillance and outbreak response. The PHL forms part of National Canadian Public Health Laboratory Network of the Public Health Agency of Canada, which requires accountability to National surveillance and outbreak response partners.
Job Qualifications
Education
A bachelor's degree in science or mathematics/statistics or related degree is required.
A Master's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or bench science is preferred.
Experience
Previous wet lab or data analysis research experience would be an asset.
