Structural Drafter/Detailer

The Opportunity

Continued growth and expansion have resulted in the need for a full-time Senior Structural Detailer at MacGregors Industrial Group. The Structural Detailer will work from a leadership position to design, create, and review technical drawings on site at MacGregors. This position will report directly to the Fabrication Division Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Review client tender packages, creating material pick sheets and providing estimation of material costs and time required to produce drawing packages.
  • Review document packages and produce engineering designs and drawings
  • Produce fabrication drawings and cut lists for structural components and assemblies
  • Responsible to supervise and review drawing packages and cut lists produced by draftspersons
  • Work with project management and engineering on design build projects.
  • Assist the project manager and fabricators interpreting drawing packages and addressing revisions to be made during the project life cycle.
  • Continually look for ways to make improvements in the design and drafting process

Expectations

  • Develop productive working relationships and communication and work with engineers, architects, tradesperson, and clients.
  • Immediately inform the Project Manager/Engineer/Quality Assurance on any concerns or possible technical issues noted during the drafting or drawing review process.
  • Continually maintain and develop technical knowledge to perform effectively and adapt to changes in the workplace.
  • The ability to train, mentor and lead draftsperson.
  • Available to work 40+ hours per week.

Key Skills, Capabilities and Experience

  • Certified Engineering Technologist or Certified Engineering Technician preferred.
  • Mechanical Drafting diploma, as a minimal requirement.
  • Proficient knowledge of Autodesk Rivet (an asset) / TEKLA Structures (preferred) or similar 3D drafting software required.
  • Knowledge of structural fabrication, connection detailing and industrial construction considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to read contract documents and drawings required to produce engineered & shop drawings.
  • Ability to perform mathematical equations as related to design detailing.
  • Willingness and ability to work to a deadline in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail required.
  • +3 years' experience required.

Hours & Benefits
