The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Engineer, Mining to join our Mines Technical Services (MTS) Team at Copper Cliff Mine Complex team in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.
As a Mining Engineer you will be responsible for designing, planning, scheduling, and budgeting for the mine operations. This role will consult with other technical staff to determine best mining practices and to set goals for the operations department. The MTS Team works collaboratively with peers and cross functionally with all other areas of the mine to complete tasks in their area of accountability.
Additionally, in this position you will:
Mid-Range Planning:
- Develop and maintain a 24-month rolling mine plan, including monthly and quarterly updates.
- Compile and manage capital and operating budgets in collaboration with Integrated Business Planning, Operations, and Reliability teams.
- Align plans with stakeholders across Geology, Ground Control, Seismic Risk Management, and Ventilation.
- Support forecasting of consumables and resource allocation.
Mine Design:
- Create and update stope and development designs using Deswik mine design software.
- Translate ore body block models into actionable mine layouts and extraction schedules.
- Collaborate with geologists and engineers to determine optimal mining methods, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Ensure designs support safe access, ventilation, and regulatory compliance.
General Engineering Support:
- Monitor production and development progress, adjusting plans as needed.
- Record and analyze engineering data to improve operational efficiency.
- Support infrastructure projects and mine improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, explosives handling, and ventilation standards.
- Facilitate communication between remote and on-site teams.
About You
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Mining Engineering
- P. Eng. is preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position is required
- 3 years of underground mining experience is an asset
Skills:
- Mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and understanding of underground mining activities.
- Knowledge of engineering planning software (Deswik) is an asset.
- Experience in preparing and managing studies and execution projects.
- Communication skills and development of concise documents and presentation materials.
- Preparation of annual budgets, 5-year plans, capital planning and allocation of resources.
- Knowledge of cash flow modeling techniques and mineral economics is an asset.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
- Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
