The Department of Social Development is an seeking individual to join the Policy and Legislative affairs branch as an Access to Information Agent in the Central Office.
As a member of the Policy and Legislative Affairs Branch, the successful candidate will be responsible for the administration of requests to access information under the Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA) on behalf of the Department of Social Development. The candidate will manage the complete access to information process as outlined in RTIPPA and manage access to information complaints while providing expertise and facilitation to the Department. Duties will include:
- Manage all RTIPPA requests in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislation by monitoring timelines, interpreting, and providing analysis on the proper application of RTIPPA and departmental legislation, making recommendations on disclosure of information, preparing correspondence, and all other matters required through the formal request process.
- Assist Applicants in exercising their access to information rights by clarifying the information the Applicant is seeking and/or redirecting requests to the appropriate public body.
- Consult with third parties (e.g. businesses, other individuals, other governments) on RTIPPA requests for information obtained from or pertaining to the third party.
- Represent the department at reviews of departmental decisions under RTIPPA by the Office of the Ombud by providing background information on the department's position and responding to inquiries.
- Contribute to briefings with senior management and/or the Minister with respect to response packages for the Minister's approval and signature.
- Participate in inter-departmental working groups respecting information access initiatives.
- Assist the Chief Privacy Officer by delivering training to staff on access and disclosure obligations; and by providing advice to staff on access and disclosure matters.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Arts, Law, or other related discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Significant experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced level proficiency, is required.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in one or more of the following asset qualifications:
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and the Department's policies and procedures;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Background in policy or law;
- Candidates demonstrating proficiency in Adobe Pro with experience in redacting records and/or,
- A good understanding of the electronic environment.
Subject to the response of this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate the asset qualifications on their application in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.
